A Little Extra & 6 Weeks of Flowers
Hi flower friends,
We had such a beautiful evening in the field Saturday for our Open Field Harvest. The weather was perfect, the flowers were abundant, and it was wonderful to watch people slow down, wander the rows, and gather blooms to take home. The feature flower of August is the gladiolus, also known as a sword lily. Gladiolus remind me of my grandparents' garden, they always had a few long rows on the outside edge. This year, I planted our gladiolus corms in successions so we can keep the blooms coming through September.

As we close out August, it's hard to believe that we have only about six weeks left in our cut flower field season. If you haven’t made it out to us this year, there is still time — but remember these last weeks will go by faster than you expect.
Our season will shift to fall and winter as we host pumpkin centerpiece workshops, dried flower frames, and winter wreath workshops, but if you want the beauty of the summer blooms we have about six weeks.
This week had me between two places I love — back in the classroom for another school year and coming home to the flower field (both places you might happen to find me barefoot)
It was a great week, and super special as Garrett and I are both in 6th grade together.
Staying Centered
Over the summer, I have been reading through EquipHer, a devotional series created to encourage, empower, and equip Christian women in their professional lives. This week I reflected on the different places God calls me to work and serve, and how my purpose isn’t limited to one title or one place. I would recommend the series, I read it in the YouVersion APP.
This Week
Chris will be meeting with the students and staff on the Visual Communications team at Delaware Tech as they begin reviewing Gathered Bloom through the lens of marketing and design. Our small business was selected as an applied practice opportunity for their students, giving us the chance to collaborate with them throughout the semester as they explore our branding, visuals, photography, videography, and marketing. We are incredibly blessed by this opportunity. We continue to learn with each season, each event, and each person who walks our field. We are looking forward to this collaboration.
Meet the Teacher Petite Bouquets
With school beginning, we'll have Meet the Teacher Petite Bouquets available this week ($10), through our website — just a little something to brighten a teacher's desk and say, “hello, nice to meet you"
Wrapped bouquets will be available by pre-order with evening porch pick up Tuesday - Friday (after 5 p.m). Select the pick up date that works for you using this pre-order link.
If you'd like one of these petite bouquets from our farm, this is the week to order. We only offer petite bouquets this time of year.
Now...something Egg-stra special
Garrett has been working every morning and evening collecting eggs and taking care of our hens. One of the main reasons we started Gathered Bloom (GB) was to establish work ethic and future employment for Garrett, so flowers aren't the only thing being harvested around here. Garrett will have fresh eggs for sale Saturday (while supplies last).

I found the cutest cartons that hold seven eggs and, when they're filled, they look a little like a flower. Of course, that felt pretty perfect for our place!
But there's another reason! Around here, we happen to think a little extra is pretty wonderful. Our family knows firsthand that sometimes a little extra brings a whole lot of joy. So Garrett's eggs come the same way —
a half dozen + one.
And here's a fun connection I couldn't resist sharing: freshly laid eggs naturally have a protective coating called the bloom. It helps protect the egg and keep it fresh.

Eggs ($3) will be available on open field harvest nights until sold out. He is learning the value of money and the association of working and earning. We appreciate your support as he learns this very valuable application in business.

That's about all we have left before the flower field season comes to an end.
There are still zinnias to gather, butterflies to watch, bouquets to make, ice cream to eat, and evenings to spend together in the field.
